Looking to get a rough VW Rabbit tailgate for project I want to do this summer. And I havent gotten even as much as a hint of one for sale on the Southeast Michigan CL for months. Any suggestions?

I'll look into those. The ones around here are mostly in Detroit, and are sketchy as fuck.

Dress up like this. Except carry around a big bottle of Colt 45.
They're a chain, so you probably won't get murdered and thrown in the trunk of a half stripped Lesabre.

Go to junkyards. They have all sorts of this stuff.

Ask Rutledge Wood. I bet he knows some sources.

That's from a '80s VW Rabbit Pickup, right?

Small world, I learned to drive stick on one of those last year. beautiful, ugly car, i want one.
ummm...have you tried the vw forums yet?

I've looked around. Most of them either have flawless ones, which I dont want cause I'm not putting it on a car, or are no where near Michigan.

yeah, they are a rarity. like i said, I wanted to buy one. I thought it was pretty easy to shift then a cobalt i tried once, or a civic. But finding one in rough condition technically should be easy.
what are you planning to do with it? have to ask, sorry.

I want to make something like this.

Don't know how many of those were sold, but I doubt it was all that many. Go to a junkyard and ask them to search other yards for that. Might find one.

I got 10 hits from yards on car-part.com, in various conditions and prices. I've found most of the yards that list there also ship (which is not as expensive as you might think). Worth a call, anyway. None were upper midwest, though, for obvious (rust) reasons, I presume.

Others will work. I just want to use the Rabbit one the most.

I can understand the reasoning, rabbit pickups rock. I'll keep an eye out for you. I might have a lead...

ok, I contacted the guy who taught me stick, he said that Barnums Salvage, in Millington (mi), had a rabbit truck last summer. It's not much of a lead, but it is one. Just search for "barnums millington, mi" in google, and a phone number will come up.
Hope that helps!

If you were near PA I might be able to help. :(
